AceShowbiz - %cLin-Manuel Miranda% and %cBen Platt% released a charity single entitled "Found Tonight" on Monday, March 19 along with its music video treatment. The song is a mash-up of "The Story of Tonight" from "Hamilton" and "You Will Be Found" from "Dear Evan Hansen".
The music video for the duet opens with Platt crooning the slightly revised lyrics to "The Story of Tonight" in a recording studio, before Miranda sings the first "You Will Be Found" lyrics. The Broadway stars can be seen facing each other as they harmonize to a live piano and orchestra.
Miranda and Platt's voices come together when they deliver verses like, "Even when the dark comes crashing through/ When you need a friend to carry you/ When you're broken on the ground, you will be found/ So let the sun streaming in, 'cause you'll reach up and rise again/ If you only look around, you will be found."
Along with the song release, Miranda issued a statement regarding the inspiration behind the song. "In the wake of Parkland, I was awestruck by the strength and leadership of the students and their ability to speak truth to power," he said. "In the midst of their grief, they mobilized the youth of our nation and created a movement."
He continued, "This is their moment. Not just for themselves, but for all of us. This song is my way of helping to raise funds and awareness for their efforts, and to say Thank You, and that we are with you so let's keep fighting, together."
Platt added in his own statement, "Better gun control is something that all Americans should be passionate about. These students are paving the way for future generations and it's so inspiring to see young people standing up for what is probably the most important cause right now in this country, and demanding action. I hope that this song can play some small part in bringing about real change."
Proceeds from the download of "Found Tonight" will go to the March for Our Lives, a planned demonstration which will be held in Washington D.C. on March 24 to protest gun violence.
